"Hungry all the time, keeping my skin between the world and I am..."  - Koreh,   The Severed Kingdom

Welcome to the world of Ember Lou Larson!  This is a site dedicated to her creative energies as a composer, singer-songwriter, performer, producer, and music instructor.

I was born in the Midwest, actually in the same hospital my mother was born in. I lived in South Dakota until I was twenty years old. Then, I traveled south and made my home in the desert mountains of Northern Arizona .  The picture above is of the Grand Tetons!  Mark and I drove through them this summer on the way back to the homeland.  Currently we are enjoying a new adventure in Tucson, AZ.

My grandfather taught me my first music lessons. He was a songwriter and had a knack for understanding instruments. I don't think there is an instrument out there that he couldn't make a beautiful sound on. When I was ten, he bet me that I could not write and perform a song for the student talent show at my elementary school. My dad was in the hospital having surgery for stomach cancer at the time. I took the bet and wrote my first official song in the waiting room over a period of hours. The name of that song is “Keep Your Dreams”. I reconnected with my first grade teacher to notate the song and she wrote the accompaniment on piano. I realize now, that this experience is one of the main reasons that I teach music privately and encourage all of my students to write their own music.

I began professionally performing my own material back in South Dakota at local coffee houses and bars. I sold hundreds of homemade albums and got very comfortable as a performing musician.  My influences range across a number of genres.  Here are some of my favorite artists throughout the years:  Tori Amos, Neil Young, Secret Chiefs Three, Tool, Joni Mitchell, Ennio Morricone, Belle and Sebastian, The Who, Alice in Chains, The Pixies, The Smiths, Built to Spill, Mr. Bungle, Brian Eno, King Crimson, and many more.  In the Spring of 2011, I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the folk opera The Severed Kingdom.   I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Prescott College in 2011.  My most recent album "A Force For Light" is a reflection of my years as a singer songwriter.

Please enjoy.
